MARHUATEE
IT MEANS "BUEN PROVECHO" (ENJOY) IN PUREPECHA.
THE LANGUAGE OF THE ANCIENT CIVILIZATION IN THE NORTHWEST REGION OF MICHOACAN, MEXICO.
The design concept embraces the rich culture and vibrant traditions of the Southwest region of Mexico. It utilizes local materials, craftsmanship, and resources to create an immersive dining experience. The design takes inspiration from the surrounding landscapes, colors, textures, and elements of the local environment into every aspect of the space—from the architectural arches, finishes, and accessories. Handcrafted artisanal pieces from local artisans reflect the region’s heritage, while sustainable materials such as wood, stone, and terracotta are used to enhance the connection to the earth. The design and culinary experience are created to engage both resort guests and the local community, fostering a deep sense of connection to the region’s cultural and environmental heritage.

Below are some of the factors that were implemented into the design of the space:

VERSATILITY - Multi-functional spaces, private dining rooms, flexible seating, and a variety of seating options offer a diverse dining experience

MATERIALITY - Local, sustainable materials, from reclaimed wood and recycled materials, to energy-efficient lighting, and
water-efficient fixtures, the goal is to minimize the carbon footprint and provide an opportunity for the local community

LOCAL ARTISANAL INCLUSION - Hand-made crafts, locally sourced artwork, and traditional authentic design elements that celebrate the area's unique culture

BIOPHILIC DESIGN - Strategically placed greenery and plants enhance the overall ambiance while creating a balance in the space. Bringing the outdoors in, and allowing for the perfect flow between the patio dining and the indoor space
